About Jan Marcason
Jan Marcason was elected to represent the Fourth District of the City of Kansas City, Missouri in March 2007. As an in-district representative, Jan has taken great pride in focusing her attention on neighborhoods and protecting the cultural core of our city. At the same time, Jan has worked hard to be a team player and to maintain a broad perspective on issues that benefit the entire city.
Jan also maintains a regional orientation, with a keen understanding that the cities, towns and municipalities forming Greater Kansas City function together and are vital to our overall social, economic and environmental success.

Background
Jan Marcason was born and raised in Kansas City. She received an MBA from UMKC in 1999, completed the Denali Initiative for Social Entrepreneurism Fellowship in 2002 and has a degree in Education from Kansas University. Jan and her husband, Dick Purucker, are actively involved in their Southmoreland neighborhood.

Past service
Prior to joining the City Council, Jan served as the executive director of the Mid America Assistance Coalition, where she managed an annual budget of more than a million dollars and helped direct millions more to local social service organizations. Jan is a founding board member of the Ivanhoe Neighborhood Front Porch Alliance and serves on the Mother and Child Health Coalition Advisory Committee. For four years, Jan was the president of the Women’s Political Caucus and served on the Missouri Commission on Retirement, Removal and Discipline of Judges. She is also a former board member of the National Fuel Funds Network.
Previously, Jan’s public service extended to Washington, D.C., where she worked for former Vice President Walter Mondale, among others. As a leader of the Junior League, Jan helped start the Jazzoo fundraiser that has brought millions of dollars to help the Kansas City Zoo. Jan is a member of Citizens Association and the Committee for County Progress.
